Free skin cancer screenings will be available again to beachgoers of Monmouth County in effort to raise awareness and reduce skin cancer mortality.

The Monmouth Cancer Coalition will offer free skin cancer screening to adults at various beaches on June 25, 2011 (rain or shine) from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. “Choose Your Cover” will combine the collected expertise of five Monmouth County medical centers, two health departments and five municipalities to fight skin cancer where risks are perhaps the greatest – at the beach.

Some Americans have expressed concern, due to an erroneous media report, that the small amount of radiation a patient receives from a mammogram may significantly increase the likelihood of developing thyroid cancer. This concern simply is not supported in scientific literature.

Little Silver Mammography Center, has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in mammography as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Mammography is a specific type of imaging test that uses a low-dose x-ray system to examine breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, is used to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases in women. The Little Silver Mammography Centers offers state of the art digital mammography with Computer Aided Detection (CAD).

The Monmouth Cancer Coalition will sponsor its third annual free oral cancer screening drive to raise awareness about the risks of oral cancer and reduce mortality from the disease. Free oral cancer screening exams will be available throughout Monmouth County from April 15th – April 21st at over forty venues including private physicians and dental practices, senior centers, residential treatment centers, hospitals, clinics and family practices. Free oral cancer screening exams will be available throughout Monmouth County from April 15th – April 21st at over forty venues including private physicians and dental practices, senior centers, residential treatment centers, hospitals, clinics and family practices. Screening sites will be announced in March 2010.
